AISI 1215 Free-Cutting Steel Cold-Finished Round Bar from Japan

AISI 1215 is a nonalloy free-cutting steel with high sulfur content for excellent machinability, cold-formed and finished into precise round bars of 1/2 inch diameter. It falls under HTS 7215.10.00 as bars of free-cutting steel not further worked beyond cold-finishing, ideal for high-speed machining applications. These bars provide superior surface finish and dimensional accuracy without additional processing.

Import Tips

Certify sulfur content (typically 0.26-0.35%) meets free-cutting steel definition per Chapter 72 notes to avoid reclassification

Provide mill test reports confirming AISI 1215 composition and cold-finishing process; declare exact diameter for statistical reporting

Watch for alloying elements exceeding nonalloy limits, which could shift to Chapter 72 alloy headings
