Tartrazine Lake (FD&C Yellow 5 Lake)

Tartrazine lake, or FD&C Yellow 5 Aluminum Lake, precipitates the azo dye tartrazine onto alumina for use in chewing gum, cosmetics, and pet foods. Under HTS 3205.00.50 as other color lakes per chapter note 3, it's insoluble unlike the parent dye. Ideal for fat-based applications.
