Maleimide is an unsaturated five-membered aromatic lactam with a nitrogen hetero-atom, used in polymer chemistry and Diels-Alder reactions. Under HTS 2933.79.1500 as other aromatic lactams, it fits the heterocyclic nitrogen-only category per Chapter 29 definitions. Its chemically defined structure excludes it from earlier acyclic headings.
