Paraldehyde is the cyclic trimer of acetaldehyde, but pure monomeric acetaldehyde sources are classified under HTS 2912.12.00.00 as acyclic aldehydes without other oxygen functions. This USP grade is used in pharmaceutical formulations as a sedative-hypnotic.
