Distilled technical-grade thionyl chloride (99.5% SOCl2) is purified by fractionation for use in polymer and dye synthesis. It is a chemically defined compound under HTS 2812.17.00.00, specifically named in the tariff as a chloride oxide of nonmetals. Low iron content prevents side reactions in dyes.
