Technical-grade ethylvanillin with 95-97% purity is still a separate chemically defined organic compound, as impurities are permitted under Chapter 29 note 1(a). It is used in fragrance compounding and non-food applications, but remains classified under tariff item 2912.42.00 as ethylvanillin.
