Mirex is a chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticide with a cage-like cyclodiene structure, produced through the dimerization of cyclopentadiene followed by exhaustive chlorination. Its fully chlorinated cyclodiene framework classifies it as a halogenated cyclanic hydrocarbon. This product is used for fire ant control and was historically used as a flame retardant.
