Sulfur trioxide (SO3) is a colorless to white crystalline solid or liquid, used as a sulfonating agent and in the production of sulfuric acid. As the anhydride of sulfuric acid, it is a chemically defined inorganic oxygen compound of the non-metal sulfur, classified under tariff item 2811.29.00. It is often supplied stabilized to prevent polymerization, which is acceptable under Chapter 28 note 1(d).
